Academics at Ave Maria Catholic School (Grades 6-8)

At Ave Maria Catholic School, we are committed to fostering academic excellence in a faith-filled environment. Our middle school program (grades 6-8) is designed to prepare students not only for high school but for a life rooted in Catholic values and intellectual curiosity. We offer a rigorous, well-rounded curriculum that challenges students while nurturing their spiritual, emotional, and social growth.

Curriculum Overview

Our middle school curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive foundation for academic and spiritual growth. Students in grades 6-8 engage in a variety of subjects, including:

  • Religion: Central to our mission, students explore their faith through scripture study, prayer, and the teachings of the Catholic Church. The curriculum fosters a deeper understanding of Catholic doctrine and encourages personal reflection and application to everyday life.
  • English Language Arts: Through literature, writing, and grammar, students develop essential communication skills. Our curriculum emphasizes critical thinking, reading comprehension, and effective writing to prepare students for success in high school and beyond.
  • Mathematics: Students build their math skills through problem-solving, critical thinking, and application. Courses include Pre-Algebra and Algebra, offering a solid foundation for high school-level mathematics.
  • Science: Hands-on experiments and inquiry-based learning define our science program. Students engage in topics such as earth science, biology, chemistry, and physics, developing scientific reasoning and investigative skills.
  • Social Studies: Focusing on world history, geography, and American history, students gain an understanding of their place in the world and learn how history shapes our present and future.
  • Spanish: Foreign language instruction fosters communication skills and cultural understanding. Students learn Spanish through vocabulary, grammar, and conversation, preparing them for high school language studies.
  • Physical Education: Our PE program emphasizes the importance of physical health, teamwork, and good sportsmanship. Students participate in various sports and activities that promote physical fitness and well-being.
  • Arts & Technology: Students are encouraged to explore their creativity through the arts, including visual arts, music, and drama. Additionally, technology is integrated across the curriculum, preparing students to be proficient in 21st-century skills.

Differentiated Instruction

We recognize that each student learns differently. Our teachers are committed to providing individualized instruction to meet the unique needs of all learners. Through differentiated instruction, students receive the support and challenges they need to reach their full potential.

Faith and Service

In addition to academic excellence, we emphasize the importance of service and giving back to the community. Middle school students at Ave Maria are encouraged to participate in various service projects, embodying the teachings of Christ through action. Our goal is to help students grow in both their academic pursuits and their personal faith journey.

Extracurricular Activities

We believe that learning extends beyond the classroom. Our middle school students have access to a variety of extracurricular activities, including:

  • Athletics: Team sports and individual competitions are available for students to stay active and engage in friendly competition.
  • Clubs and Organizations: Students can participate in clubs such as drama, student government, and various special interest groups that foster leadership, creativity, and collaboration.
  • Leadership Opportunities: Middle school students are encouraged to take on leadership roles in the classroom, through peer mentoring, and in our service-oriented activities.

Preparing for the Future

At Ave Maria Catholic School, our mission is to prepare students not only for the next grade level but for a successful future. Through academic excellence, spiritual formation, and personal growth, we provide our students with the tools they need to excel in high school and beyond, as faithful leaders in our society.
